Basic Sig Formula
The following code generates a nice, clean email signature. Modify this code to suit. Add your own colors, links, images, and/or sounds. Here is a Sample Sig. I use this code for all my sigs.
NOTE: DUE TO WEBTV'S CURRENT LIMIT ON CHARACTERS IN EMAIL SIGS, THIS IS BLESSEDLY SHORT – 585 CHARACTERS EXACTLY. FAR LESS THAN THE 1000 LIMIT. YOU MAY ADD MORE (SCOPES, EXTRA IMAGES, ETC.) IF YOU WANT.
Instructions
- Highlight (CMD+A) and copy (CMD+C) the code.
- Go to your Mail page and click on Settings
- Click Signature
- Paste (CMD+V) the code into the sig box. Modify any attributes to suit.
- DELETE THE COMMENT TAGS -- THEY AREN'T NEEDED AND WILL COUNT AGAINST YOUR CHARACTER LIMIT
- Always test your sig. You may want to use a Testbed before putting the code into the sig box. Send yourself an email to see if the sig loads properly and quickly.
Email Sig Netiquette
- Keep it simple. Your sig is NOT your webpage. A nice – reasonably sized – image, links to your site(s), a marquee quote, maybe a simple mailto form is all you need. Save your really creative HTML talents for your webpages.
- Always turn off your sig before posting in non-webtv mailing groups unless it's OK with the list owner/moderator.
- Always turn off your sig before posting in newsgroups. Usenet frowns upon posting with HTML'ed sigs. That goes for webtv/msntv-only NG's that ban jazzed up sigs.
- Do not cram your sig with large files: backgrounds, images, animations, sounds. Larger files (especially those 50+ kilobyte animated gifs and HUGE midi files) take longer to load. Your recipient may delete your message before reading it. Why? Because the way too bloated sig takes too long to load.
- Do NOT include RAM (real audio) files unless they are clickable. RAM's are notorious for freezing up older WebTV boxes and other old browsers. Besides, most mailing groups ban postings that include RAM's.
