A long time ago a beautiful baby boy was born to two very proud parents.
If memory serves me correctly the year was 1945 on this day in March.
From this day forward their lives would never be the same.
The boy grew to be kindergarten age.
His goal was to reach school age so he could learn to read.
Needless to say this feat was not accomplished the first day of school.
So he returned home most disappointed,
announcing that, "I quit school because that dumb teacher didn't even teach me to read"
However he did return to class the next day to give her another chance.
The boy grew and continued his schooling for years and years.
He learned many things there,like having fun.playing sports
including,shooting pool,playing golf, writing checks,etc.
Eventually he graduated from college and went on to have a career in the Army
where he rose to the rank of major
He married and together he and his wife raised three beautiful daughters.
Retired from the army,settled in Florida and now
plays golf EVERY DAY.
Through all of this his parents remained very proud of him.
Here is the amazing thing about this tale.
The young man accomplished all of this in sixteen years!
This I know is his true age because he told me so
on this day March,3.2006.
It appears that reading was not the only thing the dumb teacher
did not teach him.
or maybe he just flunked math.
