I am going to let you decide who he is.
He is carved on a VG 1936 buffalo nickel with my usual G hanging J mark on the reverse. The scan does not give the concept of the multiple levels of this carving. To better make my point, I would like to share with you, one of the emails I recently received from one of my buyers. This carving fits in that catagory.
"Hi Gary,
Just opened the Gypsy today, what a work of art !!! So much better than the scan. The fields are smoothly cleaned and a great definition around the subject ,so she is elevated from the field. It has a pleasing matte finish that makes it appear as a much older piece. Her headdress, etc is very finely detailed.
All the folks that I have shared her with are very impressed. This includes numismatists and novices alike.
The concensus /comment is usually "Oh wow !!!
Looks like you've made a nice transition of engraving surfaces.
Looking at her "cold" without knowing her origin, I would easily consider the quality of her engraving details and finish in the league of Bill Zach and Sam Alfano. If you have worked with these artists in the past, the lessons were certainly 'learned'.
I am not a "certified authenticator", but I do know a quality Hobo when I see one. Your work definitely deserves some serious attention by all hobo collectors !!!
She proudly joins the ranks of my other famous ladies, which include a few Moniques by Bo, and Bert's lady among others.
Carve On !!!,
"CeeBo" a proud member of O.H.N.S. !!!!!"
Happy Collecting and Thanks For Looking,
